National, regional and international bodies regulating education in Malaysia have been formed to ensure certain standards of excellence are met. At the helm of the regulation and monitoring of education is the Department of Higher Education at the Ministry of Education. For many community colleges, the regulation of education is via the Department of Community College Education.

Regional Bodies of Education in Malaysia
The MAPCU or Malaysia Association of Private Colleges and Universities was established on March 18th, 1997 and it is one of the most well known regional grouping of private colleges and universities with membership from well established educational institutions.

NAPEI or National Association of Private Educational Institutions in was established on September 15th, 1987. This is concerned with the union of private educational institutions irrespective of their size. With initial registering of around 26 members, NAPEI presently has 61 members.

International Bodies of Education in Malaysia
4 Malaysia Education Promotion Centres have been established by the Ministry of Higher Education for promoting Malaysian education in overseas areas. They serve as counselling and resource centres for students as well as parents and the 4 MEPCs are discussed below.
MEPC United Arab Emirates Located at Dubai
The MEPC Dubai was established for the promotion of Malaysian Education in North Africa and the Middle East. Its operations are to commence from April 2004. The centre in Dubai was established to provide services for students in MENA nations namely UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Jordan, Yemen, Lebanon, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria and Somalia among many.

MEPC was established in Indonesia on 15th October 2003. The aim of the organisation is the provision of quality Malaysian education through Indonesia centre. Indonesian students are the second largest international student population in Malaysia.

MEPC Vietnam Located in Ho Chi Minh City
MEPC Vietnam is located in the Ho Chi Minh City and it acts as a reference centre for students and parents who want to assess choice of institutions and courses in Malaysia. This centre was launched on April 11th 2005. This is an international centre for the promotion of Malaysian education.

MEPC China Located in Beijing
MEPC for China is located in Beijing and it commenced operations in November 2003. This centre promotes Malaysian education throughout China as well as other regions such as Hong Kong, Russia and South Korea. China’s residents form the largest international student population in the country.
